Map Design at SCS Software is largely about research. There are a lot of criteria we need to fill before implementing any given road or city, as the whole game relies on an integrated economy. Since we're limited in assets and space, we need to do a lot of digging and prioritize what landmarks, cities, and highways we want to re-create before which will require the fewest new assets before we do any actual work.
At SCS Software in addition to the normal assortment of duties I had as a map designer, I also enjoyed the unique opportunity to play the role of a 'cultural ambassador' of sorts for the US. In addition to being the only US Citizen in the entire company (at the time) I've had the good fortune to live in several different parts of it during my first two decades of life which has given me some pretty good insight into the country as a whole. Generally questions about landmarks, culture and customs, and spelling and grammatical issues fell to me then and I quite enjoyed the variety. On top of all that, I would also work with the Marketing team to help edit select blog posts.
ATS's New Mexico DLC released November 9th to overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.. It was the first release for ATS I worked on from start to finish and at the time I believe it was by far and away the best work the ATS team had done to that point.
